Fortunately, that’s the sound coming from my dad’s fireplace this morning. It’s good when it comes from a bowl of Rice Krispies, too. Not so good that it often comes from me when I take my first few steps after getting out of bed each morning or standing up after sitting down for a while!
Getting older isn’t fun, but as they say, it beats the alternative. There are a lot of advantages and positives to getting older though. With age, comes wisdom. Sometimes I feel like I should be really wise! We “wise” folks have to be careful sharing our wisdom with the younger folks because it isn’t always appreciated. You might be considered as being a “wise guy” and you could be subjected to a snap, crackle, and/or pop!
My favorite part of the growing older crowd is, of course, being a grandfather. You have to be older to be one of those! And, inevitably, you get to relive the days of your youth of walking barefoot through the house when you’re with your grandchildren, stepping on toys, and hearing… snap, crackle, pop… first from the toys you stepped on and then from your old bones as you hop around and scream in pain.
Job 12:12 (NLT) - “Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old.”
