Quit Your Whining!

Do you ever say that to your kids? Quit your whining! Down south we used to say, "Quit your belly-achin'!" Children often whine, complain, and argue about anything and everything. It's what kids do... and they do it well. They do it so well that they have it perfected by the time they grow up and become adults. We just do it in a more mature and sophisticated manner, right?

Children generally live clean, innocent lives until they are polluted by the world or environment around them. Adults, especially parents, are there to be the example for them to follow. We need to put away our childish actions and grow up, holding firmly to the Word as we grow older and wiser.

Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT) to "Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." That can be tough sometimes, but notice that he does not say be thankful for all circumstances. There is a big difference there. If you are thankful in the midst of your circumstance it allows God to do a work within you that will build you up and strengthen you. So instead of whining and complaining, be thankful in your circumstance!

Philippians 2:14-15 (NLT) - "Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people."
