Training

As a former Marine, physical training has always been important to me. The times I have backed off or neglected my training has been detrimental to my overall health and fitness. I feel slow and sluggish and my body responds negatively when I do not keep it in shape through cardio and resistance training. Proper diet and exercise are crucial to maintaining our physical health and vitality and we are not being good stewards of our bodies when we neglect these things.

It is the same thing in our spiritual lives. We need to exercise our spiritual muscles and feed on God’s Word if we are going to maintain our spiritual health and live a godly life. We need to chew on it, meditate on it, and speak it throughout the day. The more we exercise our faith the bigger it grows.

So, put in those reps and miles in order to build your physical muscles and strengthen your heart. But more importantly, do not neglect to put in the time on your knees before the Lord your God!

1 Timothy 4:8 (NLT) - “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.”
