That’s how quickly things can change. I was driving into work this morning and did something I have done hundreds, maybe even thousands of times, in my years of commuting on the freeways of Los Angeles. I changed lanes. But this one was different. I put on my turn signal, glanced over my shoulder to see if the next lane to my right was available for me, which it was, and looked forward quickly again as I began to ease over for my safe lane change. The traffic in front of me, in my current lane, had suddenly come to a dead stop.
One split second, wrong decision in that moment, meant I would either stay in my lane and plow into the truck in front of me, or I had to accelerate and turn hard into the lane next to me, trusting that I had adequately scanned it for availability. My front left bumper narrowly missed the right rear bumper of the truck in front of me as I rightly chose to accelerate into the right lane next to me. It was, in fact, clear. I had plenty of safe space to fit into a new position in that lane. My heart pounded as I relaxed and thanked the Lord for helping me avoid that near disaster.
That sudden event could have changed things for me and anyone else involved if I had not reacted correctly. God directs our paths and watches over us. Christians have the assurance of salvation when the Lord calls us home. Don’t ignore him as he knocks on the door to your heart. No one knows the day or hour of his return, but it will be sudden and without warning or time to call upon him. Don’t let a “sudden” event catch you unprepared. His arms are open wide to receive you now. Open the door and let him in!
Revelation 3:20 (TPT) - “Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me.”
