Out With the Bad

I read a quote from Nicky Gumbel that spoke to me and I wanted to share it here. "God calls us to be utterly ruthless about the bad stuff in our own lives. God does not want us to compromise with evil. He does not want us simply to cut down the areas of our lives that we know are wrong, but to cut them out completely and ruthlessly."

Think about that for a moment. If you simply cut down on areas of your life that you know are wrong, what good does that do you? It’s really a compromise, isn’t it? You have to cut that area out of your life completely in order for it to bring about a change in your life. For example, an alcoholic doesn’t cut down on the amount of alcohol he or she drinks to become a “recovering alcoholic” do they? No! They are required to cut out all alcohol before they can be free from it.

You are only fooling yourself, not God, if you cut down an area of sin in your life when you are aware of it. You must cut it out of your life and stop committing the sin. That’s called repentance, or turning away from the sin. So, take Nicky Gumbel’s advice and be ruthless in completely cutting out any bad stuff in your life that you know is wrong.

Romans 6:22 (NLT) - “But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.”
