Do you have strong opinions about things? Do you readily share it with others? Do you listen to the opinions of others and allow them to keep theirs? All you have to do is look at Facebook posts today and see that we all have opinions about many things that are going on today, especially in the political realm.
I have friends on both sides of the political spectrum and even some right in the middle. I have never seen so much mud-slinging, name-calling, and ranting between friends that I grew up with. We have been so divided during the last two presidential administrations and it is totally absurd. Instead of fixing the problem we focus on who is to blame for them.
I have seen it all on Facebook and I am weary of it all. I get angry when I see strangers, whose opinion I might agree with, say mean and hateful things to my friends, whose opinion I might disagree with. On the same token, I see some friends, that I often disagree with, say some terrible things to other friends that I usually agree with… and vice versa.
We are not showing love to one another when we spew anger and hatred toward our friends simply because they do not agree with us about whoever is holding a particular office or whatever political party is in control at any given time. We are called to pray for our leaders and our nation, regardless of whoever is in power. We are not released from that responsibility when our candidate or party does not win.
Let’s love each other and be kind to one another. Pray for this beautiful nation and for its leaders and people to humble themselves and pray, to seek God’s face, and that we would all turn from our wicked ways, so that he would hear from heaven and heal our land!
Proverbs 15:1 (TPT) - “Respond gently when you are confronted and you’ll defuse the rage of another. Responding with sharp, cutting words will only make it worse. Don’t you know that being angry can ruin the testimony of even the wisest of men?”
