Finding Rest

Rest is something we all could use a lot more of these days. I have heard differing opinions about how many hours of sleep people need and it varies with age. Sleep may be a part of rest, but it is only one definition of rest. Rest may be defined as 1) the refreshing quiet or repose of sleep; 2) refreshing ease or inactivity after exertion or labor; or 3) to relieve weariness.

One of our friends gave a word of wisdom to my wife the other day that she needed rest. It was a timely word because she has become weary from the multitude of tasks she is involved in beyond her normal work load. She needs not only physical rest, but the kind of rest that only our Heavenly Father can provide as we lay all our cares on him and place our trust fully in him.

Have you tried to sleep when your mind is filled with thoughts of all that you have done or have to do? You can’t do it if your mind is spinning out of control trying to process everything and you are worrying about it all. Rest will only come when you put all of that aside and give it to God and trust that he has it under his control. Pray to him and ask him to give you rest so that his peace will fall upon you. Then you will find the rest that you have been seeking!

Psalms 91:1 (NLT) - “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
