Mother-in-Law

Mothers-in-law are typically on the receiving end of sarcastic jokes and funny stories. All the writers of sitcoms love to show the relationships between them and their sons or daughters-in-law as contentious or funny. Usually she is portrayed as a meddling, scheming, and annoying nag, and a constant thorn in the side of a young married couple’s relationship. Just think, for example, of “Everybody Loves Raymond”.

We are traveling to Santa Barbara today to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday. She is the reason we are married, for over 39 years now, and one of the reasons we have such a strong marriage. My wife’s parents trained their family up in the way of the Lord and brought them up right. I could tell a few jokes and funny stories about her, but I love her dearly and she loves me. She would give her kids and kids-in-law anything within her means to help them out… and she often has!

Honor your parents and your spouse’s parents. Without them, you would not be here, nor would your spouse! Happy birthday to my wonderful mother-in-law! Thank you for who you are and all that you have done. I love you so much!

Ephesians 6:2-3 (NLT) - “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
