The Cat's Cradled in the Tree

My wife is an amazing woman. She has such love and compassion for animals. This morning a cat had been treed by some dogs and wouldn't come down. Furthermore, it was being terrorized by three huge ravens that wanted it for a mid-morning snack.

We were all set to head out to church when my wife saw the dogs surrounding the tree and barking. She spotted the frightened cat and put the dogs behind the fence. When she returned the ravens were cawing and pecking at the cat as it sat in its perch high out on a branch, so she shooed them away.

I joined her to assess the situation. Each time we walked up to the tree the ravens flew off, but they would return as soon as we walked back into the house. We thought the cat would climb down with the dogs gone, but it refused to climb down with us present. If we walked away the ravens returned to torment it.

She sent me on to church and stayed to watch over the cat until it was safe. There is more to the story and she eventually got the cat down, along with the help of our neighbor, but I want to draw a parallel here.

Often we, like the cat, get ourselves in trouble and find ourselves out on a limb. The enemy comes and nips and caws at us, distracting us from the way out. There is an offer of salvation that is given to us. We can either stay stuck in the tree and die or climb down into the arms of the Savior and live, but we have to make that decision.

Revelation 3:20 (NLT) - "Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together, as friends."
