I just spent several minutes talking to one of my daughters on FaceTime and staring at our youngest granddaughter as she made baby noises and drooled on the phone (our granddaughter, not our daughter... just to clarify).
I used much of the time trying to convince my granddaughter, who is almost 5 months old, that "Granddaddy loves her". I'm sure she understood completely. But I can't think of anything that brings me more joy than to talk with my grandchildren, whether they understand me or not. They are absolutely the joy of my life.
It's so much fun to watch my own kids raising their children and enjoying the little things that they do that brings them joy. Being a grandparent is the best of all worlds. I get to experience the joy from two perspectives... as a father and as a grandfather. I like to joke with my kids that if I had known how much fun grand-parenting was, I'd have done that first.
This is a feeling that I can get hooked on!
Psalms 127:4-5a (NLT) - "Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior's hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!"
