Righteous Anger

We all have those days when we just want to throttle someone. Today was one of those days for us. My wife did a walk-through of our rental house. We renovated it about four years ago before renting it to our current tenants and we have decided to sell it now, so she needed to go in and take some measurements for new flooring and determine what else needed to be done in preparation for the sale.

Let's just say that what she found was not normal wear and tear on the house. Doors were missing or removed, holes had been kicked or punched in walls, smoke detectors disabled, who knows what the master bathroom had been turned into, and many other disasters were discovered. The list goes on and on. It was deja vu all over again as they say.

We will be out of the rental business forever as soon as this tenant is out in a few days and the house is repaired and renovated... AGAIN! We have been burned too many times as landlords and it has brought on nothing but anger, stress, and frustration.

On the bright side, my wife will be able to put her wonderful interior design skills to use and the house will look amazing when it is finished. The transformation from a dump to an awesome house will be a marvelous thing to witness. We will spend a lot of money on the repairs in hopes to bring a larger return on our investment.

We have not threatened or harmed anyone but we have stood up for ourselves in confronting our property management and the tenants. We are angry about what has happened to our rental property, which was once our primary residence. It is okay to be angry as long as we don't sin in our anger. As Christians, we have a right to stand up for ourselves as long as we conduct ourselves in a way that appropriately represents our walk with the Lord.

Romans 12:19 (NLT) - Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, "I will take revenge; I will pay them back," says the Lord.
