Buy a Lake House, Get a Boat

We are within 30 days of being the owners of a vacation rental lake house. We have found so much favor with the seller that he threw in one of his boats! That is what you call an unexpected blessing! That makes a nice built-in accessory for my dock. The boat is already hoisted out of the water for the winter in one of my two slips. All I need is a party barge for the other slip - plus some canoes and kayaks - and we will be equipped for some summer fun. Start booking your reservations now!

This has been a long, hard road and a ton of work and stress for both of us, but especially my wife. We have a long way to go and, because of my job back here in California and the location of our new property in Arkansas, much of the work falls on her. This is all leading up to the part of our lives that we have been planning for and preparing for since we were a young married couple. The amount of work involved in selling two homes and buying two more, leaving a place where you have grown deep roots for many years, and returning to old roots is an emotional roller coaster unlike any other.

We do not have a precise timeline or the perfect exit strategy for California. We just know that we are going where our hearts are calling us and to be closer to our children and grandchildren. Everything will not be as perfect as we want it to be, but it will be as perfect as we can make it. We are excited and nervous at the same time, but we trust in our God and certain that he is working all things out for us behind the scenes. We have already witnessed his intervention in several areas of this process.

This past week was just one great example. We made the formal offer on the lake house and it was accepted. We paid for a home inspection and asked for repairs to items found to be done and those were accepted. Out of the blue today, my real estate agent contacted me and informed me that the seller was offering me one of his boats for no cost if I wanted it. So, we bought a lake house and we got a boat!
