My pastor asked us a simple, yet very profound question, this morning. "If you had the cure for cancer, what would you do?" I lost my mother to cancer almost eight years ago and I know exactly what I would do.
I would do everything in my power to explain to anyone I know with cancer all the steps they need to take to be cured of cancer. I wouldn't rest until they knew everything they needed to know so that they would be healed. His obvious parallel was that we know the "cure" for sin and its more dire consequences for our loved ones who have not received Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We should be even more zealous in sharing the answer for sin and the steps to salvation.
The problem is that everyone would certainly want to hear of a cure for cancer, but not everyone wants to hear about Jesus or take the steps to salvation. I would easily be able to share the cure for cancer with my friends, family, and neighbors, but why is it so hard to share about the need for salvation?
The answer lies not so much in the words we say, but in the life we live outside the walls of the church. It's all about relationship-building, which lends credibility to your testimony through your words and actions. The Bible is the Living Word of God, so live it out in your daily life.
I was so inspired by my pastor's message this morning that I think I re-preached part of it!
Colossians 4:5-6 (NLT) - "Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone."
