Ah, the precious pitter patter of little feet resonating throughout our house again! It is one of the most delightful sounds in the whole wide world. I've been shot, blown up, scared, tickled, and goosed dozens of times already... and this is just the first day of my grandkids' visit.
Dinosaurs, transformers, and odd-looking Lego creatures have attacked me and eaten me alive. I can't tell you how many times I have heard my favorite sound of all called out... "Granddaddy!" My heart has melted and my cup is filled to overflowing.
I still remember the years as a parent of young children and how exhausting the responsibility of raising these treasures can be. Having an empty nest is a wonderfully peaceful time of our lives, but the sound of our grandchildren laughing and playing is music to our ears.
Sadly, it seems that we appreciate it most when our kids are grown and gone. I long for the good ol' days when our kids were actually kids. But the great thing is that they have given us grandkids that we get to spoil and send back. It's because of them that we want to uproot our lives here and relocate to where they are.
In the meantime, I'm going to cherish each and every moment that I get to spend with them. Gotta go... I hear the pitter patter of little feet coming!
