Social media has pointed out a huge flaw that has always existed in our society. We all love to cast stones at each other and point out the sins of others. We tend to look at the more blatant, obvious things such as murder or stealing... things you could get arrested for... as sin.
We tell ourselves, "I haven't done those things, so I'm not a sinner or a bad person like so-and-so!" That is how we justify our smaller sins, such as greed, lust, gossip, slander, etc. What about disobeying God? Ouch! I should move on because I am stepping on my own toes now.
I have not found a list of "degrees" of sin in the Bible, but I have found a heap of things that God considers to be sin and most of us do not like that list because we love to do many of those things. Society has accepted a great number of them and embraced them as well.
The best news of all is that there is a Forgiver and a Redeemer who already paid the price for each and every sin! We only have to confess it to him (confession), turn and walk away from it (repentance), and thank him for it (thanksgiving).
Romans 5:15 (NLT) - "But there is a great difference between Adam's sin and God's gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ."
