Not Guilty

We are usually our own worst critic. It is really easy to sit in judgement of others and criticize them, but even then we are usually doing that as a defense mechanism to make ourselves feel better. In truth, we feel bad about ourselves and we make fun of others in order to make ourselves feel better.

Of course, this is wrong on many levels. We should neither condemn ourselves nor condemn others. We are all God’s creation and he loves us all equally. Getting back to the root of it all… why do we judge ourselves so harshly? Do you judge yourself and wonder why God would die for such a person as you? I do that sometimes.

The enemy is always pointing his gnarly finger at us and accusing us when we slip up, which we inevitably do, and tries to convince us that we are not worthy Christians. “Aha! Look what you did. You call yourself a Christian and you said this and you did that!” He is sly and he will even use friends and family to say things that will get under your skin and push your buttons.

Do not fall for the lie that says you are not worthy to be called a child of God. He knows you will make mistakes, but the penalty for your sin has been paid. Remind the accuser of that and put him behind you and shut him up. When you confess your sins to the Father, he is faithful and just to forgive you and he declares you “not guilty”!

Romans 8:33 (NLT) - “Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one - for God himself has given us right standing with himself.”
