Kindness

I am attending a work-related conference this week, in spite of my recently diagnosed injury to my knee (partial tear of my acl). As I hobble around on my newly acquired crutches and knee brace, I am profoundly amazed and impressed at the show of kindness and concern by my fellow conference attendees.

As I walk through a sea of people, the crowds part to allow me to pass, doors are opened for me, and seats are pulled out to assist me. Strangers offer to get my food for me at the buffet lines and bring me refills on my beverages. I have told my injury story countless times. People are mesmerized by the tale of me playing on the Lakers practice squad and getting injured performing a 360 slam dunk on Lebron James…. oh wait… that was a dream I had the other night. I meant that I have told countless times how I was a goofball and stepped off a ladder and messed up my knee.

My faith in humanity is restored when I see how seemingly everyone is so kind and compassionate when they see a fellow human being in need. Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit and God commands us to be kind. I am inspired to return the kindness that others have shown to me. Even though I am in great discomfort, I am warmed by all the smiles and the “how are you’s” that I have received.

Show someone kindness every chance you get. You may never know what an impact you will make on their day!
