Fatherhood

Today is my father's 93rd birthday and he is still going strong! I tear up when I talk about how amazing he is because it is the simple truth. I have to say he is not perfect since no one is, but he is the closest example I know of on this planet to a perfect man.

My dad (both parents, but this is his birthday) raised us with the highest moral principles and set the example himself. He always has a smile on his face and treats everyone with the same amount of dignity and respect. He assumes the best in someone until they prove otherwise.

Having lost my mother a few years ago quickly and unexpectedly to cancer, I don't take a single day for granted and I love to talk with him and visit with him every chance I get. He is part of the "greatest generation" and has so much wit and wisdom to share. As a child, I didn't like comparisons to him near as much as I cherish them now. I take it as the greatest of compliments when someone tells me that I look like, act like, or sound just like him.

Dad, you probably will not ever read this blog unless someone shares it with you, but it is dedicated to you. I have an unquenchable and everlasting love of our Heavenly Father because of the shining example you have given as my earthly father. I wish you a very happy 93rd birthday and I pray that you have many more. I love you with all my heart!

Ephesians 6:1-3 (TPT) - Children, if you want to be wise, listen to your parents and do what they tell you, and the Lord will help you. For the commandment, "Honor your father and your mother," was the first of the Ten Commandments with a promise attached: "You will prosper and live a long, full life if you honor your parents."
