Chatting With Dad

NOTE: This is yesterday’s blog reposted due to a technical difficulty with Squarespace. It was posted…. then it was not!

I enjoyed a nice, long conversation with my father during my commute home the other day. There was nothing in our conversation that would interest you or excite you, no funny stories, and there wasn’t anything about our discussion that stood out in my mind. I simply love talking with him, hearing his voice and his laughter. That’s true whether it’s face to face or on the phone. I’m definitely looking forward to moving closer to him soon so we can have more face time…not FaceTime!

My dad is consistently loving, kind, and gentle. Whether you see him at church, home, or the grocery store, he is always the same. He has an infectious smile on his face and a tender heart for everyone he meets. He is 94 years old and doing amazingly well. I don’t take a single day for granted and I enjoy every moment spent with him. That’s just as true now as it was over 40 years ago when I shipped off to serve in the military.

I am certain that my love for God comes, not only from his example as a strong Christian man, but also from his example as a father. Our Heavenly Father is above all earthly fathers, but my dad is the top of the heap here on earth. He is the closest example I know of what God must be like. I honor and respect my dad more than anyone else on earth. Everyone that meets him loves him. He is such a joy. That is why I love chatting with Dad!

Ephesians 6:3 (NLT) - “If you honor your father and mother, things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”
