As I was reading the Word this morning, a certain verse gave me pause, just as it does every time I read it. The first half of Matthew 16:26 asks us, “What does it benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”
This time it was the second half of that verse that stopped me in my tracks. I read it over and over. Ask yourself this question and meditate on it.
“Is anything worth more than your soul?”
I would submit that nothing in all of eternity, for each one of us, is more important than our souls. We must guard it with everything that is within us to ensure its security. Our enemy, the devil, wants to do everything in his power to steal it. You cannot let that happen!
Keep your eyes fixed on the Savior and your heart will remain pure. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, not worldly gains. All else will follow!
