As part of the headquarters staff at the LA school district, a large part of the staff is filling numerous duties to provide teaching, monitoring, and safety for the children during the teachers’ strike. I do not hold any credentials, so I was assigned to an elementary school to assist with hall monitoring and overall security.
I’m beginning to feel like the Kindergarten Cop. Thankfully, none of the kids have walked up to me and blurted that famous line, “Boys have a p**** and girls have a v*****!” I did, however, have a little kindergartner walking toward me throw up all the contents in her stomach all over the hallway at my feet. Fortunately for me, I was able to avoid the splatter and render assistance to the little sweetheart.
A youngster from the first day looked up at me and said, “I remember you!” These kids really are cute, but I definitely did not miss my calling or chosen profession. It was most definitely not being a teacher or working with children all day!
Have I mentioned why I love being a grandfather? I get to love on my grandkids, spoil them, and give them back. The striking teachers definitely deserve more pay and I hope they are back in their classrooms soon so I can get back to my lab!
