What chains do you have that need to be broken in your life? Chains can be anything that is dragging you down and impacting your relationship with Christ, such as addictions to drugs, alcohol, pornography, adultery, idolatry, etc. All of the ones I named may be obvious, except for idolatry. What can be an idol?
Merriam-Webster calls it an object of extreme devotion. Biblically speaking, it can be anything that you hold in higher esteem than God. I don’t remember what the car was anymore, but my father-in-law once told me about a car he owned that he loved dearly and devoted a lot of time caring for and maintaining. He realized that he loved it so much that it was taking time away from God. Since he was not only a Christian, but a pastor, he decided to sell the car. This was huge, and hard to do, because he loved the car so much.
Sometimes we have to take extreme measures to remove idols from our life in order to break the chains of bondage that are keeping us down and holding us back from the freedom that Christ intends for us. Break free from the sin that so easily entraps you and prevents you from having the best relationship that you can possibly have with your Lord and Savior. Whatever that chain represents, he can break it and set you free from its hold on your life. Remove everything that is not holy and be truly free!
2 Corinthians 7:1 (TPT) - “Beloved ones, with promises like these, and because our deepest respect and worship of God, we must remove everything from our lives that contaminates body and spirit, and continue to complete the development of holiness within us.”
