Planted by Rivers of Water

We currently live in the high desert of California. If our trees don’t have access to a source of water, they will not flourish. Their roots will be shallow and their leaves will dry up and wither. Our fruit trees will not produce good fruit without a steady, adequate supply of water. We have plants on our front porch with big green leaves. I have no idea what kind they are, but if we fail to water them, they begin to droop and the leaves shrivel up. Within a few minutes of watering, the leaves broaden and stand up and the plant appears lively and healthy again.

It’s amazing how much life water and the appropriate nutrients bring to the plant life out here. The same truth applies to our physical bodies. If we supply our bodies with a proper source of nourishment and water, we will stay healthy and strong.

God cares about our physical well-being, but he is more concerned with our spiritual welfare. He wants us to produce good fruit in our lives that will reap eternal rewards. Take care of yourself by feeding yourself with all things pure and holy and avoiding the evil trappings of this world. Let your roots grow deep in the good soil of his path and refreshed by the water of his Word, like a tree planted by rivers of water.

Psalms 1:3 (NLT) - “They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”
