Getting in shape is much harder than staying in shape. I speak from much experience! Working out, whether you are a runner, weight-lifter, cyclist, or any other particular type of exerciser, becomes more fun as you get in shape and do it consistently. Your body adapts to the physical demands and challenges you put it through. As you replace fat with muscle, you begin to look and feel better. Staying that way is so much easier than taking a break, as I have done way too many times, and starting all over.
Starting over is harder to do the older you get. My advise to you is to never take that break that you convince yourself that you need. It’s a long, slow, uphill climb for me now to get going again. My mind tells me that I need to do it, but my body is rebellious and tries to convince me that I can’t. There are many more great reasons to getting in shape and staying in shape than there are good excuses not to. There is wisdom in knowing your limits, but do everything you can to stay active and healthy.
God wants us to take care of ourselves both physically and spiritually. Certainly, the condition of our soul is the most important, but we should not neglect our bodies either. We are to be good stewards of all he has given us. I used to be a runner until I took a real long break. I need to get back out and start again. I should begin with long walks and build up from there. Pray for me as I work to get into shape and stay in shape!
3 John 1:2 (NLT) - “Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.”
