My wife shared a wonderful article today called “4 Incredible Reasons to Pray for Our Grandchildren Daily” by Lillian Penner. I could relate to the whole article, but one line in particular was very convicting and rang true for me. She said, “I realized that my prayers for my grandchildren had been too vague and general: “Keep them safe,” “Help them in school,” “Open their hearts.””
I pray for my children, their spouses (future spouse for one), their children, and future children. But my prayers are not very specific unless something is currently going on in one of their lives at the moment. I convince myself that they are covered by my rote prayers that I go through every night. I know that they each have individual needs, spiritually and physically, that I should specifically cover.
My mother was a powerful and consistent prayer warrior. She prayed continually over our entire family on a daily basis. She wrote prayers and highlighted scriptures in her Bible for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She had us all covered in prayer and we all knew it. It was very comforting to know! We should all follow her example and keep our family lifted up to God in prayer each and every day.
1 John 5:15 (NLT) - “And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.”
