This time of year always triggers wonderful memories for me. I have seen a lot of people sharing theirs on Facebook as well and it’s such a joy to see that in the midst of all the turmoil going on around us. I believe that we all need to share the positive things that we have in common, such as the love that we have for our family and friends, instead of focusing on the differences.
I was looking at a picture of a young mother and her daughter today. The daughter had a huge grin on her face that looked exactly like her mother at that same age. The young mother is the same age as one of our daughters and they played together at one of our duty stations back in the mid to late 1980’s. The memory made me laugh and brought a few moments of joy into my busy morning. Now my mind is suddenly flooded with a ton of happy memories from those days.
I could focus on family and friends that I have lost, but I choose to focus on the happy memories and the times when they were still with me. Those memories are abundant and wonderful. Choose joy over sadness, especially during this holiday season. Spend it with family and friends. If you don’t attend church regularly or at all, find a church and make it your home. Don’t just attend on Christmas… be a member and join the family and make some wonderful memories there!
1 Corinthians 12:27 (NLT) - “All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.”
