Photographs & Memories

Looking at a pic one of my oldest and dearest friend’s posted on Facebook today took me way back to my childhood. It is amazing how an old photograph that you have never seen can trigger so many memories. That’s what inspired me to choose this blog title, which is from a Jim Croce song released in 1972 by the same name. Just writing the title brings back memories!

Although I am certain that I haven’t seen that particular picture before, the man in the picture is the patriarch of one of the families that I grew up with. It’s no wonder that, although he went home to be with the Lord many years ago, my mind instantly raced through many wonderful memories of the years I spent with that family. The bonds we forged together all those years ago will never be broken and I will always cherish the love I have for my “second” family.

Pictures and videos may be a powerful and awesome tool for capturing images of people, places, and events that are important in our lives, but nothing will surpass the powerful images stored in our brains that God gave us. That picture I saw today was simply a catalyst that triggered a beautiful movie in my head of the man and his family that a piece of media cannot capture.

Nevertheless, capture all the moments you can in whatever way you can. Enjoy your family and friends and give them your full attention. Make memories and enjoy them!
