It’s a catchy phrase to help remember which way to turn the clock for Daylight Savings Time, but I never feel like I’m springing forward when I lose an hour’s sleep! Thankfully, I have an atomic clock that I use next to my bed and my cell phone automatically adjusts as well, so I don’t have to actually remember to change the time. I still have to change the clocks on my stove, microwave, and two cars though. Inevitably, I will forget one of them and it will catch me off guard and scare me into thinking that I’m either too early or too late, depending on which time change it is.
I love being on Daylight Savings, but I hate the transition to it. It’s nice having more daylight in the afternoon and early evening. I really wish we could just stay on this year round and never change it, but we are set in our ways and it’s nearly impossible to change it. It’s like our habits… they are not easily broken. Once you do something over and over again for many years, it becomes so automatic that you can’t help but do it. It becomes natural for you to do it. To do otherwise would seem unnatural.
Some of our habits fall into the category of sins that we have done for so long that we can’t stop from committing them. We need God’s love, mercy, and forgiveness… but it starts with our confession of the sin. Then, when we ask for his forgiveness, he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin. Then we can spring forward and move on, walking in forgiveness as if we had never sinned!
1 John 1:9 (NLT) - “But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
