The Ultimate Sacrifice

Memorial Day represents different things to different people. For many, it is a three-day weekend, capped off with family and friends gathering for fun, fellowship, and bbq’s. It is considered the official kickoff to the summer vacation season and many people head off to destinations far and wide. It’s often confused with Veterans Day and the true purpose is all too frequently lost on many families.

Memorial Day is a day to remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our military. Veterans Day is a day to show appreciation to those who have serve in our military and are still living. We do a disservice to our veterans when we don’t take the time to know the difference and give honor when and where honor is due. Of course it is appropriate to honor them at all times because military service is a sacrifice to our veterans and their families. Today, on Memorial Day, take time to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice as you gather with friends and family. Pray for the ones grieving over their loss today. Celebrate their lives and their service.

Never forget that Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for you. He gave himself so that you would not have to pay the penalty for your sins. He died on the cross for you. Honor him by accepting him as your Lord and Savior.

John 15:13 (NLT) - “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
