This southern boy is ready to get back to his roots. Even though things have changed and nothing ever stays the same, there is something special about where you grew up. It’s all the more special when two of your children and three of your grandchildren live there. I still have friends and some family there and it always feels good when I’m there. I know it’s different for my wife, who was born and raised in California. The draw for her is our kids and grandkids of course. I am pulled by them and the call to return to my roots.
It’s where I was born and raised. I was shaped and formed into who I am today by the morals and upbringing of the society I grew up in and the people I grew up with, for better or worse. I believe it was mostly for better! It wasn’t a perfect life there, but it was a great life. I have wonderful memories of growing up in small-town America. Most of us grew up together from birth through high school graduation. Everybody knew everybody and no one even locked their doors!
I’m still not exactly sure when we’ll make the move. It could be weeks or it could be months from now, but we need to make it sooner rather than later. My grandchildren aren’t getting any younger or growing any slower. They certainly aren’t moving back this way and I want to spend all the time with them that I can. I want the freedom to visit all of them at any time and spoil them until their parents send us back home!
