I’m doing a lot of pruning in my life these days. There are two main reasons for this. We are preparing to move in the near future and we have a lot of things we’ve been holding onto that we no longer use or no longer need. The other reason is that, as I’m getting older, I realize that so many things take up precious time that I just don’t have available to me. Time is such a precious commodity that I didn’t appreciate when I was much younger.
I’m learning to prioritize my time and values so that I spend it on what matters most. I don’t want to waste it on frivolous things that hold no value or meaning. I purposefully used the term learning because I haven’t perfected my ability to prioritize my time yet. I still waste a tremendous amount of time and energy on things I shouldn’t. I’m just doing that less now as time goes by. I need to do a much better job of it.
So, in the meantime, I’m sharpening my pruning shears and trimming away the excess junk that clutters my home and my schedule so that I can focus on priorities. My goal is to make mine God, family, and friends. What are yours?
