We just aren’t listening most of the time. You’ve heard that still, small voice in your head, when you wanted to do that thing that you know is not right, yet you did it anyway. You shrugged it off and charged ahead and did your own thing. Wait… that wasn’t you, it was me! I did that.
Sorry, I meant to use the first person because that’s exactly what I do on a lot of occasions. I clearly hear him speaking to me and, yet in my own stubbornness and sinfulness, I go ahead and do that sinful thing that I want to do anyway.
That refusal to listen to God is sinful and I end up repenting for it. Sometimes, though, I do it again. Thank God for his grace and mercy. I am truly working hard to be a doer of his Word and not just a hearer. In other words, it is never my intention to repeat my sins. I am training my spiritual ears to hear his voice and my flesh to obey his commands and to walk in his ways. I find that the more I listen and obey, the more he speaks to me.
I want to hear him more and more. I want to obey him more and more. I want those times that I ignore him to go from rare to never! When God speaks, I want to focus on him alone and listen and heed what he has to say!
Hebrews 12:25 (TPT) - “Make very sure that you never refuse to listen to God when he speaks! For the God who spoke on earth from Sinai is the same God who now speaks from heaven. Those who heard him speak his living Word on earth found nowhere to hide, so what chance is there for us to escape if we turn our backs on God and refuse to hear his warnings as he speaks from heaven?”
