This is my goal in my relationship with God. I’m a long way from achieving it though. I have only succeeded in partially surrendering my life to him. I hang on to bits and pieces of my life, often clinging to things that feel good or that please me or even, sadly, things that are part of my own personal pity party. Why would I even consider hanging on to those things? It’s certainly not intentional, but he will often reveal to me that I’m doing exactly that very thing!
Absolute surrender means giving complete and total control over to someone else. It is saying, “This is my will, God, and I’m giving it to you. I want to do your will.” That is not an easy thing to do and it means giving up a lot of “fun” things that you like to do. It doesn’t mean that you won’t have fun. You will find that you experience more joy and pleasure in life when you are walking in the Father’s will.
Walking in surrender to God is actually a walk of victory, not a walk of defeat. You are in a position of blessing and protection as you live in obedience to him. It’s when you flee from him that you remove yourself from the umbrella of his protection or the “shadow of his wing”. He is our sure foundation and our fortress. Lay down your life in absolute surrender to him and he will take delight in you!
Hebrews 12:28 (TPT) - “Since we are receiving our rights to an unshakable kingdom we should be extremely thankful and offer God the purest worship that delights his heart as we lay down our lives in absolute surrender, filled with awe.”
