Remember your children’s reaction when you gave them a gift and how excited they were? They played with it nonstop for days or hours at a time… until the newness wore off. Then it gradually got set aside with all the the other discarded toys that you gave them. We are a lot like that, too. Think of the new car that you wanted so badly that you sacrificed for. Once you finally got it and drove it for a while, the excitement eventually wore off and it lost its new-car luster.
Our faith can become like that when we first receive Christ in our hearts. We get very excited and emotional at first and we want to tell everyone about it. Our enthusiasm slowly fades as we settle into complacency if we lose focus on who God is and what he has done for us. Never lose sight of what you were saved from and what the Savior has done for you and will continue to do for you. Keep the fire burning in your heart and never let your love for him grow stale.
Hebrews 6:12 (NLT) - “So don’t allow your hearts to grow dull or lose your enthusiasm, but follow the example of those who fully received what God has promised because of their strong faith and patient endurance.”
