Alternate Routes

By default, my GPS almost always wants to send me over the mountainous route to work. Although it’s a shorter distance and most often quicker, this is the most dangerous road. It winds up and over the Angeles Crest. A lot of idiots believe they are Formula One race car drivers and try to prove it. There have been a lot of accidents and many fatalities as the laws of physics and Murphy’s law proves them wrong. These people do not have the patience to stay behind safe drivers that like to keep the rubber on their tires and brake pads.

So I almost always choose the alternate, and safer, route of going around the Angeles Crest and stay on the freeway. It’s a longer distance, but the freeway speeds usually make up the difference in time, or at least close enough to make it worth my while not to go over the Crest. Today, according to my GPS, the difference was an hour and a half, so obviously something really messed up traffic on the freeway. This forced me to take the Crest to work, but it allowed me to avoid the traffic snarl on the freeway and get to work on time.

God will sometimes take us in a direction that we did not plan to go. We often want to take the safe, easy way to reach the place he wants us to go. The path he takes us may seem bumpy, with a lot of twists, turns, and ups and downs, but he guides us safely through and gets us to the place has prepared for us. We can ignore him and choose to take our own path or listen to his voice and follow his path.

John 10:27 (NLT) - “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
