You Can Do It!

I watched a video of my grandson on his first day riding his bicycle without training wheels. He knew the story of his mother falling and breaking her arm when she was first learning, so he had to overcome a little fear as he made the decision to try it. I know it’s hard to try something new and a little bit dangerous, especially when there is a little voice inside telling you what could happen to you or all the things that could go wrong.

But as he took off down the driveway, there was another little voice that rang out louder than any voice in his head. You could clearly hear it over everything else. It was the most precious thing in the world. It was the sound of his little sister, yelling words of encouragement.

“Go, Bubbie!,” she yelled as he took off a little wobbly at first. “You can do it!” she continued as he turned down the sidewalk and headed out in front of the neighbor’s house. “I knew you could do it!” she called out to him as he crossed the neighbor’s driveway, and finally, “Bubbie, you’re doing good!” as the video ended with him going past the next neighbor’s house. He was riding straight and with confidence, his mind filled with his sister’s encouraging words.

I don’t know who I’m more proud of…. him for doing so great on his first ride without training wheels… or her for being such an encouragement for her big brother! Maybe I’ll call it a tie. These two have their normal siblings spats, but they truly love each other and show such compassion toward one another. They play together so well, which is amazing since there is three years difference in their ages and one is a boy and the other is a girl! I love them and miss them so much.

God encourages us to never give up. Just like my granddaughter, he wants you to know that you can make it. Just listen with your spiritual ears and hear him say, “Go! You can do it! I knew you could do it! You’re doing good!”

2 Peter 1:3 (NLT) - “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.”
