This truth is both scary and comforting at the same time. There is not a thing that God does not already know, whether it is something you have done or thought about. The comforting thing is, since he already knows, it should be easy for you to confess it to God. He is simply waiting for you to acknowledge it to him, ask for forgiveness, and turn from your sin.
God’s Word is alive and powerful and true. He is the one to whom we are accountable. Jesus understands all of our weaknesses and failures. He faced all of the temptations we do, yet he did not sin. But he carried our sins to the cross and took the penalty for us. That’s how we can come boldly to the throne of our loving and gracious God and receive his mercy and forgiveness.
The knowledge that nothing we say, do, or think is hidden from God should motivate us in our daily walk with him. If that knowledge is in the forefront of our mind, we will be less tempted to sin and, when we do, we will be quick to repent and ask for forgiveness. We will be less likely to repeat that offense. We are children of the light. Let him shine a light on all your darkness and rid you of all of your “hidden” sins that have been holding you back from your full potential to serve him.
Hebrews 4:12-13 (NLT) - “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.”
