I love the story of young King Solomon. His humble request for wisdom impressed even God so much, that He granted him abundantly more than he asked for. There is no way that Solomon could have known how much above and beyond his request God would respond, so his motives were obviously pure.
When I read this, it makes me want to reset my priorities and boil my requests down to Solomon’s, with a pure heart and motives. You probably won’t be a king or queen over an entire nation, so join me today in modifying Solomon’s request to fit your situation.
Now, O Lord my God, you have blessed me with a family of my own, but I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around. And here I am in the position to affect generations after me! Give me an understanding heart so that I can teach your children well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to raise this generation of yours?
1 Kings 3:7-9 (NLT) - “Now, O Lord my God, you have made me king instead of my father, David, but I am like a little child who doesn’t know his way around. And here I am in the midst of your own chosen people, a nation so great and numerous they cannot be counted! Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?”
