The first day of spring was three days ago. I didn’t even realize it until someone mentioned it to me, but I have taken note of the grass turning green, the birds chirping, the trees and flowers beginning to bloom, and the general warming trend of our weather. I’ve even witnessed people tilling their gardens to prepare for planting this year’s crops. I have forgotten most of what I used to know about growing fruits and vegetables in a garden, but I definitely know that it takes a lot of work and careful preparation to have a successful crop.
One of my fondest memories was when my younger daughter tended her first garden. I borrowed a tiller and plowed up the soil and fertilized it and did the prep work for her. We fenced it in to keep as many of the rabbits and other critters out as possible. My daughter did most of the rest. She planted the seeds, and performed the daily task of watering them and keeping the weeds out of the garden. I don’t recall all of the plants, but I remember a wonderful harvest of tomatoes as one of my favorite things. The soil was prepped, the plants were nourished and protected from weeds and cared for until time for the harvest. It was a great harvest!
God has planted his Word in your heart. You need to tend your heart, nourish it, and protect it from evil. Strive to keep yourself pure and holy, set apart for him, and ready for the harvest. Spring has sprung for 2023. Let this be a time for your heart to spring forth and blossom in love and dedication to Christ!
James 1:21 (NLT) - So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.
