Digging For Gold

Thanks to government service, my wife and I have lived in six different states and one foreign country in almost 41 years of marriage. Our older daughter has lived in at least as many states (maybe more), both as a child and since she married. Our younger daughter has lived in five states and our son in three states. We have had wonderful experiences in every place we lived. Some were greater than others and, yes, there were some negative experiences as well.

It has always been our policy to make the most out of everywhere we go. In each case, with one exception, we were sad to leave because of friendships and the overall experience of the location. The exception was the isolation of the foreign country we served in. We were definitely ready to return to the United States from there! But we did have some great experiences there as well.

After many years away (41) from my home state of Arkansas, we will soon be returning there. I hold wonderful memories from my childhood to draw me back, but I realize I will be returning to a different place and new circumstances. I have many things that are drawing me back, some that were there before and some that are brand new. I still have family and friends and the beautiful state that I have always called home. But now I have two of my children and three of my grandchildren there. I will also be closer to my other child and grandchildren.

My whole point is that there is gold wherever you are if you will only look for it. Be content and happy wherever God plants you. You are there for a reason, so dig for the gold and enrich your life with the treasures of your home in the place you live. If and when God moves you, repeat the process in your new home.

Matthew 6:21 (NLT) - “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
