I Can't Unsee That!

How many times have one of your good friends shown you something really disgusting just to get a reaction from you. I have a couple of wonderful friends that make me declare, “I can’t unsee that!” I didn’t invent that phrase but I use it often. It is so true of many things that I have seen. Without going into detail for obvious reasons, many of the things I had to see during my government service were horrific things that I cannot unsee. I would love to, but I simply can’t. I’m not alone in this because it is true for everyone.

The human brain is just one of the many marvelous parts of the body that God created. It stores every image we see, every sound we hear, every aroma we smell, the taste of everything we consume, and the feel of everything we touch. We may not recall things at any given moment or ever again, but they are stored there like a digital storage device. The data is never actually deleted. That is why I cannot unsee the things I have seen.

What are your eyes seeing? Most of the time you cannot control things that accidentally come into your view. But what things do you see on purpose? What do you watch on TV, movies, or the internet? Are you, like me, guilty of letting your eyes rest on things you shouldn’t see? You may not consciously try to remember those images, but you can’t unsee them. You are feeding your mind with unhealthy images. Think about your children and grandchildren. What are they seeing? We all need to guard our eyes and we are responsible to protect our kids whenever we can. Set your eyes on Jesus and be thankful that you can’t unsee him!

Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) - Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
