Anyone remember the sitcom, A.L.F.? I’m writing about this only because my big brother suggested it as a blog topic and he didn’t really believe I could work it into my blog. So here you are, Big Bruddah… this one is for you!
The series ran from 1986 to 1990. Alf was an alien life form, hence the series title, A.L.F. You’re welcome! On one episode, Alf managed to get into Willie’s (the human family patriarch) wine stash and get drunk. The writers used this to teach the children in the household a life lesson. Anyway, toward the end of the show, Alf rushed off-camera into the bathroom and you hear him “heave” loudly and then declare, “Hey, I don’t remember eating that!”
For some reason, that one scene stuck with my brother and me and, all these years later, still cracks us up today. So, how do I use this illustration for a life application? It’s not that difficult actually. We often consume so much, so fast, that we don’t pay attention to what we fill ourselves with that may or may not be good for us.
Even too much of a good thing can be bad for us if we are overloading ourselves with more than we can handle. Have you ever done so much that, when you look back, it was all a blur and you can’t remember the details of anything… or you may have even forgotten what you did? The “things” may have been great, but you were too busy to even realize it. That leads to burnout.
So, if you become glutted and so sick that you have to heave and then find yourself declaring, “I don’t remember eating that!”… you may need to eat a little slower and chew your food more!
