Do What He Says

Jesus has so much to say to us through his Word. His teachings are for our benefit and not to harm us or keep us from having fun. If we follow his teachings, we are being wise and building our lives on a strong foundation so that we will grow strong and prosper. Conversely, if we do not listen to his teachings, then we are building on a weak foundation that will crumble when the winds of adversity blow against us.

So, why would we choose to ignore his Word and go our own way? It is because we are deceived into thinking that the ways of the world are more fun and the pathway of sin is easier and more pleasing to our flesh.

It is like when we are undisciplined in the foods we eat. Our bodies crave sweets, for example, and we eat more of the foods that taste better that are not good for us. In the short term, they don’t harm us and they are very pleasant to eat, but the long term effects are disastrous for us. Even though we know the consequences, our flesh cries out for more and we ignore the warning signs.

A healthy food diet, once we are on it and used to it, actually makes us feel much better and really tastes good. It may be harder in the short term, but the long term effects are a longer, healthier life, more productivity, and a more active lifestyle without the guilt that often comes with overeating or eating the wrong foods. Our spiritual life is no different. The path to destruction is broad and dangerous, while the path to life is narrow and few enter it. Choose the path to life, follow Jesus’ teachings, and build your life on a strong foundation!
