I’m writing this blog early, as I always attempt to do. I haven’t looked at the news to see the election returns to see whether there was a “blue wave” or a “red wave”. I want to offer a suggestion and a little encouragement to all my friends, no matter which side of the political spectrum you are on.
Politicians come and go, political parties eventually swap power, and both do their share of great and stupid things. Friendships should be lasting and unending. But do not let them end over an election or over who is in office or power. Not one of us has the influence to control what our chosen person does or does not do. We either agree or disagree with them. A healthy debate and a voice at the polls is what counts. All the shouting and angry, insulting Facebook posts will not change a thing.
Love each other, forgive one another, and say kind things that will build up and not tear down. And as all of our mothers used to say, “If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all!”
Proverbs 12:18 (NLT) - “Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.”
