My older brother and I share the corniest jokes with each other, so maybe "Oh Brother", like the George Clooney movie, would've been an appropriate title (you've probably noticed that I enjoy putting a slight twist to my blog titles). But we laugh at our jokes and that's all that matters to us anyway. Today is his birthday and I want to start out by wishing him the happiest of birthdays!
I have another brother in between us in age, but I'll save my comments for him later this year on his birthday. Today is about my older brother that loves to make "witty" comments on my Facebook posts. I could start a barrage of embarrassing stories since I have the forum but I won't do that. I believe in playing on a level field so, tempting as it may be, I'll forego that one-way assault.
Why did God give me a big brother six years older than me? We didn't get to spend near enough time together as kids because we weren't really kids together. Yet in spite of all the usual sibling strife that goes on in families, we have always had an amazing relationship that has only grown stronger with each year that goes by.
He moved away when he graduated high school and I moved away because of two careers that kept me away for over 39 years so far. Somehow through the distance, we have managed to stay close and cherish the moments we spend together when I'm home for visits. There is something to be said about the bond of brotherhood. I'm thankful that I have him in my life and I love him so much!
Our dad says that we are just alike and, as much as I hate to admit it, he's right. Come to think of it, I'm kind of proud of that. I think we're wild and crazy guys! Oh brother.
1 Peter 1:22 (NLT) - "You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart."
