Today is my big brother’s birthday. And by big, I mean older brother. I am the youngest of three boys and he is the oldest. I could go into oldest jokes, but I’ll spare him since it’s his birthday. Suffice it to say, there are six years between my oldest brother and me and four years between the next brother and me. So, for better or worse, I had two older brothers watching over me. It had its advantages and disadvantages. I’m sure they would have a few things to say about that as well. But my point today is to honor the birthday boy. September will be the other one’s turn.
I’ve always looked up to my big brother, not just because he’s taller, but because I respect him for the way he has handled all the curve balls life has thrown at him. Like everyone else he stumbles, but he does not fall. He gets back up and moves on, never losing his faith. I know he loves me and will always be there for me and he has my back. We have a special bond that I believe goes beyond being blood-related brothers. We know all the stuff beneath the surface about each other, not just what everyone else sees, and we have always been close in spite of the six years between us. He is an amazing man and I am proud to call him my big brother!
We are often told that we look alike and act the same. Our dad tells us that we have the same sense of humor. I’m sure my brother takes that as a great compliment and I suppose I will have to accept it as one as well since this is his birthday. He is a pretty handsome guy, after all. So… happy birthday, Big Bruddah! Have a blessed day. I truly love you with all my heart!
