There is a big cross up on a hill that I see every morning when I commute in to work. I get to work well before sunrise so it is lit up and captures my eye every day. It is always a wonderful reminder of another cross that sat on a hill a long time ago. That cross was not so beautiful.
The old rugged cross was not a beautiful piece of artwork and lit up so everyone could take in its beauty. Instead it held the body of our Lord and Savior with nails driven through his hands and feet to keep him suspended there while he was mocked and spat on until he died. His blood ran down the cross and dripped from the cross-beams as he gave up his life in sacrifice for our sins.
The beautiful cross that I see each work day as I drive by is a beautiful reminder of a wonderful Savior. I usually do not think about seeing it each day, but as I crest the hill in Universal City near Hollywood, it pops right up into my view and I am awestruck by its beauty every time. Thank you, Lord!
