I remember so much from my Boy Scout days. I can still recite the 12 points of the Scout Law, I know the Scout Motto, and even some of the many knots we were required to learn. Scouting was a huge part of my teen years and I carry so many fond memories of those days. I have always put “Eagle Scout” on my resume and it still carries weight today.
The principles that were instilled into me by the program and the example that my Scoutmaster, Townsend “Towney” Mosley, set for me, are a large part of who I am today. Those principles closely follow biblical principles and can be applied to Christian living on a regular basis. The Scout Slogan, “Do a good turn daily”, is the focus of my blog today.
Each day, we should look for people that need someone to come alongside them and be a blessing. It could be something as simple as a friendly hello, or a warm hug, or an engaging conversation. There are times in each of our lives when we need someone to just listen to our situation and lift us up. Words are not always needed and sometimes are not even welcomed. A listening ear can go a long way to healing someone’s hurt at times.
Look for opportunities to laugh or cry or just to be with someone every day. Be alert to the people around you as you go about your busy day. Take the time to notice others and read their faces. Look beyond the facade they may be trying to hide behind and see how they are really doing. You can’t possibly do that for everyone, but you can do that for one or two people in your life.
Do a good turn daily. Maybe someone will do a good turn for you when you are in need of one!
