What If?

Remember those beautiful printed versions of the Bible? There is something special about holding it and reading through it, underlining or highlighting certain passages that speak to you, and writing in the margins. It’s handy and convenient to have a digital version on our cell phones and we can even have an almost unlimited number of translations and excellent search functions. But I love to sit in a quiet place and pull out my hard copy of the Bible and turn through the pages and read the scriptures.

I read something that brought conviction to my heart because of the truth it speaks. “What if we began to treat our Bibles the way we treat our cell phones? What if we carried it with us everywhere… turned back to go get it if we forgot it… checked it for messages throughout the day… used it in case of an emergency… spent an hour or more using it each day?”

Just imagine if we prayed as much as we text! God would hear from us a whole lot more often than he does now. We are truly mesmerized by this marvelous piece of technology that is really a fairly recent invention. God’s Word has been with us forever and it will be with us for eternity, long after cell phones are gone. It’s great to use them to hold a Bible app that will allow you to read many translations and search through the scriptures and assist your study of God’s Word. But dust off your printed Bible and use it as well. There’s nothing quite like the printed Word in my opinion!

Romans 15:4 (NLT) - “Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.”
