I drive a minimum of 120 miles each work day on the freeways during my commute. The flow of traffic alternates between fast and slow in what I call the “accordion effect”. There are so many distractions that can lead to an accident if I allow them, such as texting, changing music stations, or anything else that diverts my eyes from the road. Sometimes I have to force myself to ignore a text or keep my music on the same station if it means keeping myself safe. I have to look beyond the temporary pleasure of the moment and think of the long term consequences of my actions and how it will benefit me in the future.
Spiritually, there are many things that distract us from staying in the lane and prevent us from seeing impending danger ahead. We may be so caught up in temporary pleasures that keep us out of God’s Word or fellowship with his children that we isolate ourselves from him and others. We need to focus on what lies ahead, listen to his voice, and walk in his will so that we will be under the umbrella of his protection. Always put God first in your life and put away any distraction that would keep you from following him with all your heart.
Matthew 6:33 (NLT) - “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”
